On the road with the RESCUE natural wellness brand
Vehicle wraps, signage, and interactive activities designed by Paula Frederick, focused around positivity and the iconic Airstream travel trailer
OVERVIEW
The brand team set a goal to wrap an iconic aluminum Airstream in Rescue®’s iconic sunshine yellow and positivity and drive it across America, bringing attention to the value of emotional health.
The aluminum Airstream and van were wrapped in Rescue’s iconic sunshine yellow, logos, graphics and phrases—then driven from Texas to Pennsylvania over an 8-week period in the Spring of 2025. Its goal was to spread positivity and drive across America, bringing attention to the value of emotional health.
Both the Airstream and truck were printed with key phrases like:
“Emotions = Information. It’s ok to feel. Nurture your emotions. You are worthy. Take a moment. It’s ok to ask for help. Breathe in, breathe out. Let wellness bloom. You matter. Be kind to yourself. What are you grateful for?”
Whether someone saw the Airstream while sitting in traffic, or visited the Airstream at one of its destination stops, the “bright yellow bus” brought sunshine and calm vibes wherever it went.
The Airstream and pull-van were built and wrapped in Texas and made their way up the East Coast, stopping at major retailers like Whole Foods and Sprouts, influencer events like Mom 2.0 Summit and Miami Earth Day Festival, and independent natural retailers. The Airstream was fitted with custom-made interactive activities and exhibits that centered around emotions and appropriate for the whole family: adults, children—even dogs!
Honestly, this was the perfect project for me. I love stuff like this.
Rescue Road Show (1 of 4), clockwise from top left: a) Airstream vehicle wrap, passenger side; b) three-quarter of the front and side; c) standalone feather banner; and d) complete view of Airstream and Chevy pull-van, passenger side
Rescue Road Show (2 of 4), clockwise from top left: a) Airstream vehicle wrap, driver side; b) distressed logo; c) three-quarter view of the back and side; and d) front (shown separated from van); e) complete view of Airstream and Chevy pull-van, driver side
PROJECT
Design two vehicle wraps—the iconic polished aluminum 25’ Airstream gullwing travel trailer and its Chevrolet Express 3500 Extended pull-van—for the Rescue® brand, in support of their brand activation and road tour, “The Rescue Road Trip.”
GOAL
Through the design and visual appeal of the Airstream and van, inform and inspire the public about the value of emotional wellness, spread positivity, and build brand awareness, all while connecting with retailers and brand shoppers in real time.
Rescue Road Show (3 of 4), clockwise from top left: a) interior view with Airstream gullwing door open; b) back of the Airstream, also what you'd view driving behind it; c) part of the Calm Vibes selfie wall; and d) the metal rooftop sign, only seen when vehicle is parked and set up
Rescue Road Show (4 of 4), clockwise from top left: a) exterior view showing some of the activities (Write & Release station, Mood Meter interactive cubes, spin wheel), set up in progress; b) another shot of the passenger side; c) "Let Wellness Bloom" angle; and d) exterior view set up and in use
GRAPHIC ELEMENTS DESIGNED by PAULA
This was a massive project which I carried out in the spring of 2025. It is probably the largest single project I have completed thus far. Not in overall size (as some of my trade show booth graphics have been larger) but in the sheer number of unique elements needing to be designed. Here’s a list, with no guarantee I got everything in, haha.
-
25’ Airstream Gullwing (outside dimensions 22’ x 7’ x 7.5’ | open footprint dimensions 25’ x 11’ x 9)
a key element of the design’s success was maintaining the aluminum of the Airstream and letting it shine
branded graphics on all four sides
little factiod: each Airstream is custom built; each section varies by as much as 2 inches (!!)
-
Chevrolet Express 3500 extended cargo van (20’ x 7’ x 13’)
constricting the wrap design to a simple yellow, white, & gray color palette aligns it with the Airstream, without competing
stuck in traffic, if you were to look behind you and see the van in your rearview mirror, the hood would read, “Breathe in. Breathe out.” (without a mirror, it is printed backwards, like ambulances)
even the view from above was taken into consideration; the roof was printed with “Reach for RESCUE”
-
3D printed on metal (8’ x 2’) to match the Airstream vibe
-
Rescue Road Show—illustrated logo, concept based on a beat up Route 66 road sign
When Life Happens Reach for Rescue, Rescue Rooted in Calm since 1935—a sort of Lego approach in which each element can be used on its own (example: just “Reach for Rescue”) or combined with any of the other elements (“When Life Happens / Reach for Rescue”)
-
3D printed “Calm Vibes” sign (15’ x 8’) set onto a beautiful flower-and-vine wall
-
standalone interactive spinning displays to help children (& adults like me) identify their emotional states, in partnership with WholeSchool Mindfulness
four-sided, including illustration (2 sets of 3 spinning cubes @ 4’ high, for 24 unique sides)
stand-up instructional sign (1’ x 4’)
takeaway sheets (8.5” x 11”)
-
banner flag sign (3’ x 8’)
postcards to send yourself a positive message to arrive by snail mail after 2 weeks (2 @ 6” x 4”)
instructional sign flyer (8.5” x 11”)
yellow mailbox
-
oversized interactive prize wheel, à la Wheel of Fortune (4’ x 8’)
to insure customization, half the sections are printed on, half are detachable; these interchangeable sections swap in & out as needed, depending on the prizes available
customization insures long-term use for future use beyond the road show
-
to welcome & entice people over to the outdoor space created by the Airstream & its activities
one stand-up “What’s The Mood Today?” (2’ x 9’) feather flag banner
-
4 tee designs, front & back
-
a printed 14-day daily gratitude journal practice by Pockitudes
-
video cards & stills for social (in multiple screen ratios)
banners for web & social (multiple formats)
teaser images of the full Airstream & van were needed before photos existed (I made these with Illustrator & Photoshop)
email templates for stores & store employees
-
for 3 free product samples bags (3 @ 2” x 2”)
each label adheres to regulatory & marketing requirements
-
email templates for stores & store employees
toolkits for retailers with images, messaging, & guidance they can reuse
style guides in ready-to-use file formats: PowerPoint & PDFs of the guide itself plus all logos (78 variations) & illustrations (24 variants) for in-house use
