Hi, I’m Paula Frederick, a hands-on designer with over 20 years of experience in global branding, packaging, and digital design. I love bringing ideas to life that connect with people and deliver business results. I genuinely enjoy what I do and like to have fun while doing it.

Full bio

  • Paula Frederick is an award–winning art director, graphic designer, and illustrator specializing in creating and designing for American, European, and Asian markets. Throughout a successful design career, Frederick has been honored to create solutions to touch worldwide audiences. You may have seen her work on shelves at your local CVS pharmacy in the US, at the Beijing Automotive Show, on multilingual websites for Fortune 500 companies, or in the book Design Funny: A Graphic Designer’s Guide to Humor by Heather Bradley. Or even folk music CDs put out by Wepecket Island Records.

Frederick’s career kicked off when she hired on to animate interactive versions of bestselling children’s entertainment. The company was Media Station (Ann Arbor, Michigan) and Frederick art directed Shari Lewis’ Lamb Chop Loves Music, the educational title that Music Educators National Conference called “a must!” Frederick animated on the childrens’ games for Disney’s blockbuster The Lion King and two bestselling children’s books: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, by Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond, and William Joyce’s George Shrinks.

Frederick joined the Web design agency Fry (Ann Arbor, MI and Boston, MA), now owned by Oracle, as Senior Art Director and Creative Services Manager, helping to design highly visible business-to-consumer (B2C) interactive. Fry became one of the top Web firms in the world according to Forrester Research. During this time she designed and led design teams to create high-profile web sites, including PBS, Staples, and eZiba, an online global bazaar Time Magazine called, “one of the best sites on the Web.”

When Frederick turned to freelance design and illustration she successfully designed interactive, print, and brand identities for Harvard’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, OneBeacon Insurance, the Museum of Bad Art (MoBA), non-profits, and others. During this busy time Frederick also served a unique role as the sole in-house graphic design consultant for the Massachusetts division of Texas Instruments (Attleboro, MA). When it was sold and spun off as Sensata Technologies — a multi-billion-dollar maker of highly engineered sensors used worldwide in jets, cars, and houses to improve safety, energy efficiency, and clean environments — Frederick stayed on as senior graphic design consultant, partnered with the worldwide communications director. Highlights over 15 years of working with TI and Sensata include reaching out to engineers, managers, and business leaders all over the world, then designing everything needed. Projects of a very broad spectrum, too: print and online advertising, multi-language web sites and portals, worldwide internal communication collateral, oversized event graphics, and important shareholder documents and presentations.

Today, Frederick is happy to serve as the first art director hired for the Americas at Nelsons (North Andover, MA), the UK’s oldest manufacturer of natural healthcare and wellness products (London HQ), and maker of Rescue Remedy and Bach Original Flower Remedies brand product lines. Her design specialties in this full-time role include consumer packaging design (CPG), new product development (NPD), advertising, trade show and event graphics, social, sales collateral, information graphics, PowerPoint presentations, and website CMS design for US and Canada — sometimes all on the same day. She loves collaborating across departments, roles, and countries. In one year alone, Frederick designed packaging for 80+ new consumer products (160+ pieces) launched to market in the US and Canada.

Paula Frederick graduated cum laude from the University of Michigan, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) in graphic design.

She lives in the lovely seaside town of Duxbury, Massachusetts, USA. In her spare time she likes painting, comedy, and the outdoors.
